Enjoy sunset and a starlit evening on the GIFT cruise

by Ed Progar

Cleveland-Spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner. The trees are in full leaf, the flowers and bushes are in bloom, the air is fresh with pollen and Lake Erie is quickly warming. Mother Nature has again set the stage for the LGBT kick-off event of summer, the 20th annual Cleveland Gay Invitational Fellowship Tournament cruise on the Goodtime III.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, June 14. Boarding begins at 7 pm on the East 9th Street Pier-behind the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the same place where the Pride festival is held. The ship sets sail at 7:30 pm sharp, rain or shine, for a 22-hour cruise on the Cuyahoga River and along the lakeshore.

The Goodtime III, the tournament's cruise ship for the past 19 years, offers three levels on which to spend the evening, each with its

own distinct atmosphere. Enjoy a beverage and snack on the enclosed lower deck, dance to your favorite tracks with the house DJ on the second level, or mix and mingle while communing with nature as you enjoy the beautiful sunset and starlit evening from the open-air upper deck. Cash bars are located on all three levels.

Tickets are available for $20 cash at various Cleveland and Akron establishments. A complete list of sales locations may be found by visiting www.clevelandgift.org and clicking on the Cruise button. Information is also available by calling 216-749-2152.

If tickets are not sold out before boarding begins, they will be available at the dock beginning at 6:30 pm the evening of the cruise on a first-come, first-served basis. Don't take the chance of missing the boat, buy your tickets early.

Ed Progar is the director of the GIFT Cruise.
